Discover the municipality of Buonalbergo
The town of Buonalbergo is located at 25 km of Benevento and is located at an altitude of 555 meters.A pretty agricultural centre, located along the main artery connecting Benevento to Puglia, it has always been an important passage for farmers, mercenaries and soldiers.
The first urban settlements date back to the Samnite period and during the Samnite wars, Titus Livius cited it as an important strategic centre. The town was considered to be a natural fortress of the first order, and the Romans set up their camp there against the Samnites in the place known as the Valli anchorage.
Buonalbergo is thought to have been founded by refugees from the ancient villages of Mondingo, Pescolatro and Faiella destroyed by the Barbarians.
Under the rule of Emperor Trajan, it became an important centre for the exchange of agricultural products, who built the Via Traiana that connected Benevento and Brindisi, and had it pass through the territory of Buonalbergo. A fief of the Spinelli and Coscia families, with the Unification of Italy, it went down in history as the first municipality in the province to raise the tricolour.
Today, the town of Buonalbergo is structured in three parts :
- Rione Terravecchia where administrative activity is concentrated,
- Rione Casale historically most important area and finally
- Santjanni commercial area of the town.
The population of Buonalbergo is around 1,600.

From Pescara: take the A14 motorway, exit Termoli and continue in direction of Boiano – Benevento. Then take the SS. 90 bis to Buonalbergo.
From Rome: take the A1 motorway, exit Caianello and continue in direction of Benevento. Then take the SS. 90 bis to Buonalbergo.
From Naples – Caserta: take the A1 motorway, exit Caserta Sud – Maddaloni. Then take the SS. 90 bis to Buonalbergo.
From Salerno – Avellino: take the A16 motorway, exit Benevento. Follow the entire motorway link to the ‘Benevento sud’ exit and take the SS. 90 bis to Buonalbergo.
From Bari: take the A16 motorway, Benevento exit. Follow the entire motorway link road to the “Benevento sud” exit and take the SS. 90 bis to Buonalbergo.
