Pago Veiano

The modern town of Pago Veiano lies along the Tammaro river and the provincial road connecting Benevento and San Giorgio La Molara.
The small agricultural centre has its origins in Roman times; archaeological finds testify to the ancient urban settlement of ‘Pago Veianus’. These two settlements were located along the banks of the Tammaro River, an important communication and transport centre of the time.

The first documentation dates back to the beginning of the 13th century. It was a fief of Andrea de Capua, then of the Cutillo, Brancaccio, De Maio, Caracciolo, Mansella, Pignatelli and Girardi families. With the unification of Italy, it was incorporated into the province of Benevento.

Today, the population of Pago Veiano is around 2,300 inhabitants and local production consists mainly of fruit, vines and olives.
