Discover the municipality of Pietrelcina

The town of Pietrelcina is located at 12 km of Benevento and is located at an altitude of 345 meters.

The municipality has about 3,000 inhabitants and is situated on a hill to the right of the Tammaro River.

Pietrelcina was first named ‘Petrapulsino’ in the 12th century by Falcone Beneventano.
Initially, the territory was owned by the Counts of Ariano of the D’Aquino family and then passed to the Carafa, D’Aquino and returned to the Carafa until the abolition of the feudal system in 1806.
From 1806 to 1861, Pietrelcina was part of the district of Ariano (in the province of Principato Ultra) and later became part of the province of Benevento.

The town of Pietrelcina is famous because in 1887 Francesco Forgione (Padre Pio of Pietrelcina) was born, who was beatified in 2002 by Pope John Paul II.

The local economy consists of religious tourism and agricultural activities.

How to get to Pietrelcina ?

From Pescara: take the A14 motorway, exit Termoli. Continue towards Boiano – Benevento, take State Road 212 (Fortorina) and exit Pietrelcina.

From Rome: take the A1 motorway, exit at Caianello and continue in direction of Benevento. Take Strada Statale 212 (Fortorina) and exit at Pietrelcina.

From Naples – Caserta: take the A1 motorway, exit Caserta Sud-Maddaloni, then Montesarchio and Benevento. Take State Road 212 (Fortorina) and exit at Pietrelcina.

From Salerno – Avellino: take the A16 motorway, exit Benevento. Follow the motorway junction, take Strada Statale 212 (Fortorina) and exit at Pietrelcina.

From Bari: take the A16 motorway, exit Benevento. Continue along the entire motorway junction, take Strada Statale 212 (Fortorina) and exit at Pietrelcina.
