The town consists of seven villages, surrounded by forests, pastures and countryside. In all, the town has approximately 3700 inhabitants.
In the area of Santa Maria Ingrisone, numerous archaeological finds have been made, including marble sculptures, coins and tombstones from the Roman era. It was the territory of the Baron of Montefusco, the Cantelmi, the D’Aquino and finally the Carafa who owned it until the feudal system was abandoned.
