In the 8th century, it was a small village of the Benedictines of Cassino who, during the period of the Saracen invasions, erected a cross, from which the name of the village would derive.
Known as Santa Croce, then Santa Croce di Morcone, it assumed its present name after being annexed to the province of Benevento after the unification of Italy.
Today, the municipality has about 900 inhabitants.
