Discover the municipality of Solopaca

The town of Solopaca is located at 30 km of Benevento and is located at an altitude of 180 meters.

The municipality is located at the foot of Mount Taburno, south of the River Calore and has approximately 3700 inhabitants.

The municipality was inhabited since prehistoric times and the first documented mentions date back to the 12th/13th century.
It was a fief of one of the largest families of the Neapolitan nobility, in 1574 it became a duchy of the Ceva-Grimaldi family (who governed the town with terror by carrying out persecutions, corporal punishment and arbitrary imprisonment) and finally the territory became the property of the Sagro family, who maintained power until the abolition of the feudal system in 1806. The town became part of the province of Benevento after 1861.

Solopaca was badly hit by the earthquake of 1688, which caused a great deal of damage.

Historically significant is the iron bridge over the Calore River, placed on a single arch, built during the Bourbon era and destroyed by bombing in 1943.

The most important tourist attraction is the Grape Festival, which takes place on the second Sunday of September. The celebration consists of a parade of floats depicting famous people, monuments, made entirely from grapes.
