Discover the municipality of Tocco Caudio
The town of Tocco Caudio is located at 24 km of Benevento and is located at an altitude of 500 meters.The municipality is located on the northern slope of Mount Taburno, between the Jenga and Serretella streams.
The historical centre of the town is located on a rocky ridge and was abandoned by people after several earthquakes.
This village originated in the early Middle Ages, and some of the earliest historical records date back to the second half of the 10th century. At that time, this place was called ‘castrum’ and was the seat of the Longobard gastaldate. Incorporated into the ‘Viturano State’ in 1811, it has been a municipality of Sannio Benevento since 1861. Since 1864, the name ‘Caudio’ has been added.
Today, the municipality has approximately 1400 inhabitants and the local economy is mostly based on agriculture, animal husbandry and handicrafts.
How to get to Tocco Caudio ?
From Pescara: take the A14 motorway, exit Termoli. Continue towards Boiano – Benevento – Strada Provinciale Vitulanese and follow the direction of Cautano. Once you have passed the town of Cautano, continue in direction of Tocco Caudio.
From Rome: take the A1 motorway, exit Caianello. Continue towards Benevento and exit at Ponte. Then follow in direction of Foglianise-Vitulano-Cautano. After passing the municipality of Cautano, continue in direction of Tocco Caudio.
From Naples – Caserta: take the A1 motorway, exit Caserta Sud, Benevento and Montesarchio. Continue along the Vitulanese provincial road in direction of Campoli Monte Taburno and Cautano. After passing the municipality of Cautano, continue in direction of Tocco Caudio.
From Salerno – Avellino: take the A16 motorway, exit Benevento. Continue along Strada Provinciale Vitulanese and proceed in direction of Cautano. After passing the town of Cautano, continue in direction of Tocco Caudio.
From Bari: take the A16 motorway, Benevento exit. Continue along Strada Provinciale Vitulanese and follow in direction of Cautano. After passing the municipality of Cautano, continue in direction of Tocco Caudio.
