The castle is located in the upper part of the historical centre and surrounded like a ring by the ancient medieval village; there is a double wall interspersed with circular towers.
It was built by the Normans on the remains of the Longobard Tower and transformed from a military building into a stately residence during the Renaissance.
The Palatine Chapel dedicated to St Nicholas preserves a period cross and the original portal. Some rooms are decorated with 18th century frescoes.
After decades of decay, the building was restored in 2010 and currently houses a hotel/restaurant.
