Discover the municipality of Calvi
The town of Calvi is located at 13 km of Benevento and is located at an altitude of 360 meters.The town is located a few kilometres from Benevento and is surrounded by extensive olive groves and vineyards.
Here there is said to have been a battle between Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus and General Annon, in which General Annon was defeated. Later there was, again against General Annone, another battle by Consul Quinto Fulvio Flacco, in which General Annone was again defeated.
The ancient village has typical medieval architecture and the remains of the ancient Roman aqueduct bear witness to the existence of urban settlements. It belonged to the Tomacelli, Gesualdo, Ludovisi, della Marra and Caracciolo families during the feudal period.
With the abolition of the feudal system, Calvi was united with the town of San Nazzaro and only gained administrative autonomy in 1958.
The population of Calvi is around 2600 inhabitants and local production is mainly cereals, tobacco, wine, oil, fruit and cheese.
How to get to Calvi ?
From Pescara: take the A14 motorway, exit Montenero di Bisaccia. Continue in direction of Isernia, Mafalda, Montenero di Bisaccia and take the Trivento exit. Then follow the provincial road and pass through Torella del Sannio and Castropignano. Continue on the state road in direction of Benevento, exit at San Giorgio del Sannio and follow the directions for Calvi.
From Rome: take the A1 motorway, exit Caianello and continue in direction of Benevento. Then follow the state road 7 Appia (direction Montesarchio – Caserta), exit to Castello del Lago and continue in direction of Calvi.
From Naples – Caserta: take the A1 motorway, exit Caserta Sud – Maddaloni. Then follow the Appia state road 7 (direction Montesarchio – Benevento), cross Maddaloni and take direction Melizzano, Solopaca and Frasso Telesino. Then follow in direction of the A16 – Benevento and exit at San Giorgio del Sannio. Once you have taken the exit, follow the signs for Calvi.
From Salerno – Avellino: take the A16 motorway and exit at Benevento. Then follow the state road 7 Appia (direction Montesarchio – Caserta), exit Castello del Lago and continue in direction of Calvi.
From Bari: take the A16 motorway, exit Benevento. Then follow the Strada Statale 7 Appia (direction Montesarchio – Caserta), exit Castello del Lago and continue in direction of Calvi.
