The village is located a few kilometres from San Giorgio del Sannio, at the foot of the Colle dell’Angelo, and consists of five hamlets (Cucciano, Lentace, Mancusi, San Giacomo, Terranova).
The name San Martino originates from a 9th century church of the same name. In feudal times, the territory belonged to the Abbey of Santa Sofia in Benevento, the Montefusco family and the Annunziata of Naples.
After the Unification of Italy, it became a municipality in 1865 with the name San Martino Ave Gratia Plena, which was changed to its current name in 1872.
Today, the municipality has a population of around 1,200 inhabitants and local production consists mostly of wine, oil, tobacco, wheat, fruit and livestock.
