It is located a few kilometres from San Giorgio del Sannio, at the foot of Montefusco, in the basin of the Mele stream and has a population of around 870 inhabitants.
The age of its origin is uncertain, but some local historians claim that it was inhabited as early as the 2nd century B.C. by some groups of Corneliani Ligurians; it is certain that the small village of Montefalcone was inhabited during the Norman era.
It was the territory of the Ludovisi, della Marra and Caracciolo families. After the unification of Italy, it became part of the province of Benevento.
